Intimate Relationships 2
THE EFFECT OF INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS ON
WELLBEING
Reduce stress and anxiety
- Being in an intimate relationship has been found to lower
stress levels because of the new feeling of being loved and
cared for.
Increased life expectancy
- People who are in close relationships usually live longer
compared to those who are not because of the relaxation and
encouragement to cruise through life’s issues. They have a
crying shoulder.
Improved self-esteem
- Through the kind of treatment that a person receives from
an intimate partner, self-esteem is elevated as the person
gets a higher sense of self-worth. The person feels more
valuable and important hence the confidence.
Proper sleep patterns
Being in an intimate relationship can also help a person to
establish health sleep patterns. These people are free from issues
like insomnia and hypersomnia. As a result of the comfortable
sleep conditions their overall body health is guaranteed. They
have more energy to go about their activities the following day,
which makes them more productive.
STRATEGIES TO MAINTAIN HEALTHY
RELATIONSHIPS
Open communication
- Communication in a relationship is very
crucial as it helps the partners to air their
issues. It should therefore be open and
candid to ensure it benefits both parties to
help maintain a working and health
relationship.
Positive attitude
- A positive attitude in a relationship will give
the partners the driving force and a sense of
motivation to stay in the relationship.
Looking at issues from a positive perspective
will ensure that the subjects appreciate each
other and are well intended to drive the
relationship forward.
Assurance of commitment to the
relationship
- To maintain a working relationship, the
partners should be careful to categorically
declare their commitment in the friendship
and their intention to stick to it even in times
of interpersonal tempest. The feeling that this
declaration gives both of them is an
important driving force for the relationship.
