SIGNIFICANT EVENTS OF THE INDUSTRIAL AGE.
Introduction.
The industrial age is the period between the 18th and the 19th century; this was the period
when there were many important inventions made at this time. This can also be referred to the
industrial revolution period. It can be said to be the movement from the old to new
manufacturing processes in the period between 1760 to a time between 1820 to 1840.
Machines and tools were much improved during this period. The economy improved and labor
expenses reduced drastically. This process began in the Great Britain and most invention was
made in Britain.
These inventions came to be because of social, economic and political changes that were being
experienced in the Great Britain, some economists argued that this was also brought about by
the living standards of the people; their argument is mainly based on the constantly increasing
population and the need to sustain it.
The inventions made at this age.
The most remarkable invention in this period was the invention was the invention of the steam
driven engine by Thomas Newcomen in the year 1712, this invention was not that much
efficient till 1769 when James Watt from Scotland improved it to become a more efficient
steam engine. This included the invention of the crankshaft and gears. These inventions acted
as foundations for modern steam engines. It also made the invention of locomotives and other
textile machines more possible. This invention resulted in the invention of the first steam
driven boat, train, and even factories
James Hargreaves did the second invention in 1964; he was a British carpenter and weaver. His
invention was the spinning jenny, a machine that was made to spin two or more threads to
come up with the clothes, this made the production of clothes more simple as the machine
could do much as compared to the individual manpower that was being used in the previous
times. This invention also made a lot of progress in the textile industry.
Eli Whitney did the third invention in 1794. He invented the cotton gin that was used to
separate cotton seeds from the cotton fiber. This reduced the time used in cleaning cotton and
hence, resulted in economic growth. This saw the textile sector grow even more. Production
was improved even more.
Samuel Morse in 1844 invented the telegraph. A communication technology that relied on a
wire to transmit a message from one point to the other. This improved the communication
sector and in 1860, the wires had stretched from east coast of United States to the west of
Mississippi River.

Elis Howe came up with a sewing machine in the year 1846. It was used to sew clothes very firs.
The led to the development of more cloth factories in the country. This also made the making
of clothes much cheaper and faster too.
Henry Bessemer followed with his discovery of how to make steel from iron and at a very high
speed, this made steel making fast and also cheap, this eventually resulted in the more
production of steel and hence more buildings was made which eventually saw to it that cities
began to develop. This development was made in the year 1855.
Impacts of the industrial revolution period to the modern society.
The steam-driven engines, as were are told, this invention led to the innovation of more
locomotives and even creation of factories. The impact of that in the modern society is that the
invention is still used in some of the factories today; it has also led to the invention of even
more advanced things that still use that steam principle. For example, we have the steam
doors, steam heater and even the hot air balloons use the same principle.
The invention of the spinning jenny has also been seen in the current world, more
improvements are made on the same and we never fail to see the more improvements made
on the fabrics. The machines have been improved to see to it that only the best are made.
The inventions also have some negative aspects in them. For example, the invention of the
telegraph was further improved until now the communication is wireless, this has seen more
electric waves spread through the world. This brought about the set lights, which uses wave.
These waves have more effects than benefits to the society. It brought about some illnesses
and health complications with them a good example is cancer that scientist claim to have
originated from the wave.
The revolution brought about the invention of factories that have since developed very much
and hence began to pollute the environment, which in turn also posed a great health risk to the
people. This has over time seen the degradation of the environment, both the soil and air.
This revolution has also seen the population growth rate of human being go down; this is due to
pollution and the hostile conditions that came with the industrial revolution. These conditions
may include poor working conditions and many others.
The revolution also saw people leave the rural areas to go and look for work in the factories in
the city; this has happened for the longest time and is still happening at this present moment, it
has seen the society. This has led to the elimination of the rural area to put up a factory. This
has greatly reduced the vegetation cover in the world.
Summary.
The industrial revolution has had both benefits and disadvantages in the modern society, this
has been taken differently by many different people, some support it while others despise it.
