Point 1: The field trip chosen was a view at the stories of the lives of survivors of the Holocaust
which was an atrocity committed during World War 2. People who were interviewed were only
young when Nazi Germany decided to take them from their homes and place them in
concentration camps, where they were starved and tortured for the sake of ‘Ethnic Cleansing’. I
chose this field trip in order to focus on the act of racism and how acts of cruelty may be born
from this backwards form of thinking and the view that a race is inferior compared to another.
Point 2:
1. The first connection to religious philosophy is the Anti-Semitism of the Jewish people and
their religion. They are viewed as inferior based on their religion and their race by the Nazis.
This is the reason why they were put into concentration camps.
2. The second connection is the how some Jews viewed it similarly to the Exodus of the Jews
from Egypt. They viewed it as a hardship that they must endure. Some believed that this was a
trial from God, just like how their ancestors who were enslaved in Egypt, the Jews during the
Holocaust saw themselves as the same.
3. The third connection is the questioning of some Jews of their religious beliefs and
philosophies. “What God will let this happen to his people?” They questioned whether what they
believe in was correct, others even despised the fact they were born Jewish because of what they
experienced.
4. The fourth connection was the unanimous belief that, what was happening to them, according
to their beliefs was an act of evil. Just like the enslavement of Jews in Egypt, they viewed it as a
horrendous act that was deemed evil. It is in accordance with the problem of evil when it comes
to philosophy of religion and beliefs.
