The need to address local domestic violence as a result of increased cases of families
impacted by substance abuse requires effective interventions and approaches that will assist such
families. Family counseling is a kind of treatment which is designed to address certain issues
impacting their health and functioning.
Interventions for Substance Abuse
An intervention can encourage family members to get help for substance abuse or misuse
of drugs, and other situations that include compulsive eating, or other addictive conduct. Drug
addiction can damage lives and family if not confronted and handled in the most appropriate
manner. A host of interventions can be used by families facing substance abuse circumstances.
Firstly, brief interventions can be used mainly for alcohol use problems. The focus of the
intervention is to assist patients understand that the use of substance is placing them at risk and
thus encourage them to reduce their utilization or decease altogether. Brief interventions can
range between five to about fifteen and thirty minutes of counseling for the affected family
members and family (Jhanjee, 2014). Generally, brief interventions (BIs) are focused on
addressing problematic as well as risky substance usage. These interventions are not targeted at
