Secondary school counselors work with students throughout their high school years in preparation for college and post-secondary education. Because students may not be exposed to this information through other avenues, school counselors must provide accurate and comprehensive information about post-secondary options.

- Your role and responsibility as a school counselor as it relates to providing career and college counseling.
- Current requirements for high school graduation in NORTH CAROLINA:
- Core curriculum requirements and credit hours.
- World language requirements.
- Elective credit requirements.
- Minimum acceptable GPA.
- Standardized college assessments:
- Names of assessments
- General times of year assessments are offered
- Description of assessment
- Minimum scores required to pass
- Re-take information
- At least 3-4 examples of the college admission requirements from a local college or university:
- Required courses prior to college admission
- High school GPA required
- Acceptable assessments and minimum scores
- Types of careers and levels of education:
- The levels of education that can be achieved through college (i.e., AA, BA, MA).
- List 2-3 types of careers per degree that often require specific degrees.
- The length of time each degree requires for completion.
