Definition in your own words

Use the term in a sentence as it
applies to ecology or human
interference.

Sustained Yield

Sustainable yield refers to the number of
resources that can be harvested while
leaving enough of a population to replace the
resources that have been harvested through
natural reproduction (Smith & Smith, 2015 p.
310).

Sustained yield is an important
aspect of responsible use of
resources. Ecologists who study
population growth rates can derive
an appropriate “take” of a species
that will allow for the remaining
individuals to replace those
individuals taken. Smith & Smith
(2015 p. 310) point to the Atlantic
cod fisheries collapse as a result
of overfishing as an example of
what can happen when resources
are used quicker than they can be
replaced.

Nonrenewable
Resource

A nonrenewable resource is a resource that,
once consumed, cannot be replaced on a
human timescale (Encyclopedia.com, 2016).

Many of the energy sources in use
today are nonrenewable resources
called fossil fuels. These energy
sources are relatively easy to
access and can be shipped to
nearly any location (National
Geographic Society, 2019).
However, because these energy
sources are finite, the continued
use will deplete the stores until
there is not enough remaining to
support global energy needs.

Natural
Sustainability

According to The International Union for
Conservation of Nature, sustainability is the
“…capacity to improve the quality of human
life while living within the carrying cap...
