Forest and Lake Management
Introduction
St. Georges lake progress committee has been mandated with the management of the reserve
surrounding the St. Georges Lake. The area under their jurisdiction is 20 ha in size inclusive of
the lake that covers 8ha of the area. Their role is to, therefore, ensure that the reserve is in good
condition to achieve the long term benefits to be accrued from the lake. This reserve provides the
locals with leisure-related activities and has been of great benefit to society over the years since
the construction of the dam and creation of the nature-friendly environment. This is in addition to

reserve. The funds to do these works have, however, diminished over time, and there is a need to
look for alternative funding methods to repair the infrastructure that has degraded over time. The
radiata pine that covers approximately five ha of the reserve which is ready for harvest provides
an alternative for the much-needed funds. There is, however, the need to conduct a feasibility
study on the impact that this approach would have. This paper shall, therefore, be analyzing the
feasibility of harvesting these trees from the economic, environmental, and social perspectives
while giving recommendations on the action to be taken upon on-sit...
