Re: Theorist Report; Frederick Herzberg
Theory Summary
The theory known as motivation-hygiene was introduced by Frederick Herzberg in 1959
which illustrated the factors that help in motivating the employees to enhance organizational
performance. The theory of motivation also explains the factors that can lead to dissatisfaction
(Alston, 2017). The factors of motivation can include recognition, responsibilities, growth
opportunities, and job status whereas the hygiene factors can involve wages, working conditions,
relationships with others, physical work environment, and the connection between workers and
management. The theory has been considered effective in the improvement of job environments
as well as the enhancement of employee satisfaction.
Introduction of Theorist and their Contribution
Frederick Herzberg created a theory that contributed to business management strategies.
The theory illustrates the need for employee management (Alston, 2017). The theory describes
the requirements of business management and human relations. For instance, the theory provides
insights into motivations and hygiene of a business environment (Alshmemri, Shahwan, &
Maude, 2017). The theory is considered as a two-factor hypothesis deemed to evaluate a business
environment aimed at promoting business productivity that has focused on employees through
motivation and business hygiene.
