Summary

In a nutshell, this chapter looks into how super nation countries used science to stamp their control on the earth. The astronomers took an initiative to understand the earth and also to find the distance that exists between the sun and earth mathematically. However, later astronomers were sent around the world to study the earth and atmosphere. Also, the development of Europe and North America was due to scientific development, which other countries did not have. Hence, the scientific development made in European nations, facilitate their growth and control of the world.

Analysis

From the chapter, what one grasps that empires used science to understand the world, develop it and control it. Hence, it is arguable that the imperialism by America or Europe over other nations can be attributed to their use of scientific development to control the world.
